I was thinking the other day about what I would consider an ideal portable computer. First of all, it would have to take the place of a conventional notebook, so it shouldn't be any bigger than one. Also, I type a lot faster than I write, so it should have a full size keyboard.
I really don't like pen computers. My writing is irregular at best, and I often change between print and cursive. My handwriting changes daily and even the best recognition software would probably consider me a chore. The keyboard on something like a PowerBook Duo is sufficient, though not ideal, but I haven't found a notebook computer with much better of a keyboard in such a small space. Naturally, the computer would have to run the Mac OS.
Maybe a PowerPC PowerBook that weighs less than 4 pounds, has an active matrix color screen, batteries that last 8 hours or more, and a really cool trackball that won't eventually begin sticking.
Am I asking for too much? Maybe so. At least for now. Sometime soon, they'll probably come up with something I would want to buy. Until then, I'll be happy with my notebook and my rollerball pen.
